THE 7 DAY
SECOND MOUNTAIN PATH
B.A.S.E.Challenge
This is a seven day email course. It will guide you through the B.A.S.E. framework, a system rooted in Integral Theory to bring your five-year vision to life. If you’ve already climbed the first mountain and find yourself ready for a career with deep impact and meaning, you’re in the right place. The Second Mountain Path is a space for misfit leaders who challenge conventional norms and design a life and business that seems impossible to other people. Welcome.
You can have the vision.
But do you have the structure to support it?
Seven short emails. One idea a day. No spam, and one click unsubscribes you for good.
What you’ll see inside
In rooms with leaders from Amazon · Goldman Sachs · Pfizer · Disney · JP Morgan · BBC
WHAT YOU ALREADY KNOW
From the outside, it reads like success. From the inside, it's quieter than that, and you've stopped saying so out loud.
The goals still get hit.
You're as capable as you've ever been. The results keep coming. They just don't land the way they used to.
The next win looks like the last one.
You can see the whole arc of the next five years, and some part of you isn't sure you want it.
You're present, but not quite here.
Especially at home. You're in the room with your kids, running a background process you can't fully name.
You suspect the problem is you.
Which is why you haven't brought it to anyone. It feels ungrateful. It isn't. It's a signal, and it's on time.
The trailhead
The first mountain was assigned to you. Grades, title, income, the shape of a good life handed down before you could question it.
You climbed it well. That's not in dispute. But the restlessness you're feeling isn't failure, and it isn't burnout. It's the specific sensation of standing on a summit that was never fully yours, and sensing a second one you didn't know was there. The Second Mountain Path is seven days of getting honest about what that second climb actually requires, using a framework precise enough to act on this week.
the framework
B.A.S.E.
Rooted in Integral Theory, B.A.S.E. is a diagnostic for why what got you here stopped working. Four pillars hold up any life at your level. When one falls out of alignment with where you're actually headed, everything above it strains. The week walks each pillar in turn, then shows you which one is yours to move first.

Beliefs
Your inner operating system makes decisions before you're consciously aware of them. Name the core belief quietly capping your growth, and write the identity statement your next level is waiting o
Actions
The gap between where you are and where you want to be shows up in what you do every day. Adopt the habits your future self already practices, and confront the ones costing you more than you think.
Systems
Willpower got you here. It won't get you to the next level. Find where decision fatigue is draining your highest-value energy, and build infrastructure that makes progress sustainable without the grind.
Environment
Most leaders at your level don't have a strategy problem. They have a proximity problem. Take an honest inventory of the relationships and spaces around you, and find the one shift that changes everything.
why now, and not next quarter
Nothing forces this. That's the danger.
There's no crisis coming to make the decision for you. A capable man can run a competent, slightly hollow life for a very long time. Which is exactly why the drift is worth naming now, while it's still cheap to change course.
i.
The years compound
Another five years of hitting goals that don't move you isn't neutral. It's five years of teaching yourself that this is just how it feels now.
ii.
Your kids are watching the answer
They're learning what a life at full capacity looks like from you. The question is whether you want them learning this version of it.
iii.
The signal gets quieter
Restlessness this articulate is a gift. Ignored long enough, it doesn't get louder. It goes numb, and numb is far harder to work with.
the seven days
One email a day. Each with a short video and a downloadable exercise you'll actually finish.
Bonus meditations included. No busywork, no fluff. Every day ends with something concrete in hand.

What is the Second Mountain?
You did the work. You got the results. And something now feels off. Discover why, and the shift that changes everything about how you build what's next.
Develop your B.A.S.E.
Before you build what's next, understand why what got you here stopped working. Meet the four-part framework leaders use to diagnose exactly what needs to change first.
The belief that's capping you
Identify the core belief quietly limiting your growth, and craft the precise identity statement your next level has been waiting on.
What your future self already does
Uncover the habits your future self practices without thinking, and confront the behaviors you've been tolerating that cost more than you'd guess.

Day 7
Commitment
Beyond willpower
Pinpoint where decision fatigue drains your highest-value energy, and build the infrastructure that makes progress sustainable without the grind.
The proximity problem
Take an honest inventory of the relationships, spaces, and cultures around you, and identify the one environmental shift that would change everything.
The B.A.S.E. alignment check
Score your current foundation against the future you've named, pinpoint your most misaligned pillar, and walk away with a focused 90-day plan.
One committed next step
Insight without action is expensive self-awareness. Distill the week into a single committed step, with an accountability structure and a clear path if you're ready to go deeper.
an honest filter
This isn't for everyone. It's built for a specific man at a specific moment.
This is for you if
You're a founder or senior leader who's genuinely good at what you do.
By most measures you've made it, and that's precisely what's unsettling.
You're a father, and the question of what you're modeling has started to matter more than the next milestone.
You want a framework you can act on, not a weekend of affirmations.
You'd rather be told the truth plainly than sold a feeling.
This isn't for you if
Things are working and the question of meaning simply isn't live for you right now.
You want tactics for the first mountain: more output, more optimization, more speed.
You're looking for someone to hand you certainty rather than better questions.
You won't spend fifteen honest minutes a day for a week.
who’s guiding this
I'm Mark Guay.
For nearly two decades, I've coached the kind of leader this page is written for. My first clients were elite triathletes, people organized entirely around a single summit. In 2017 I moved that work into the boardroom, and kept noticing the same thing: the most accomplished people in the room were often the most quietly disoriented.
I'm an ICF-accredited executive coach, and I run Second Mountain Path. I've worked with presidents, founders, and senior executives across some of the most demanding companies in the world. I'm also a father, which is not incidental to any of this. The Second Mountain question showed up in my own life before it showed up in my work.
This course is the front porch of that work, not a pitch dressed as one. If seven days is all we ever do together, my aim is that you finish moving the needle in a way you didn't before.
